Christmas Tree Farms Near Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina

North Carolina has an estimated 50 million Fraser Fir Christmas trees growing on over 25,000 acres. Ashe, Avery, Alleghany, Watauga, and Jackson counties produce 88% of North Carolina's Christmas trees. The North Carolina Christmas tree industry is ranked second in the nation in number of trees harvested.

Between Linville and Elk Park, North Carolina, Lanee and I found a small acreage working with several thousand harvested Chistmas trees.

This is what we learned

A crew of about thirty people are cutting down trees and loading them on the trailer. The trailer is then taken to the collection and shipping site.
A lot of work is shown in this picture. There are about twenty people unloading the trees onto pallets being built on site by two teams. Once the trees are secured to the pallet, they are wrapped and tagged with the delivery information.
There were two fork lift operators working and they were busy. The bundles were being organized by order and would be loaded into a truck.
These sorted trees will be loaded onto trucks and shipped to a major retail store in the southeast. They will process over 200,000 trees this season through this one loction.
