Adelaide, Australia

It is March 18, 2019 and Lanee and I are at Adelaide, Australia. It is the capital city of the state of South Australia, and the fifth-most populous city of Australia. In June 2017, Adelaide had an estimated resident population of 1,333,927. Adelaide is home to more than 75 percent of the South Australian population, making it the most centralized population of any state in Australia.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate, with warm to hot dry summers and cool to mild winters and with most precipitation falling in the winter months, leading to the suggestion that the climate be classified as a "cold monsoon". Adelaide receives enough annual precipitation to avoid semi-arid climate classification. Rainfall is unreliable, light and infrequent throughout summer. In contrast, the winter has fairly reliable rainfall with June being the wettest month of the year, averaging around 3.15 inch. Summer temperature typically range from 46 to 50 degrees F. There are usually two to three days in summer where the temperature reaches 102.2 degrees F or above, although the frequency of these temperatures has been increasing in recent years. The average sea temperature ranges from 56.7 degrees F in August to 70.2 degrees F in February.

Lanee and I traveled by motor coach with 15 other people to the wine production area of the Barossa Valley (it has 13 sub-regions with differences in soil, slope, and climate). It was a bright sunny day and we enjoyed learning about this region close to Adelaide, Australia.
