Albany, Australia

It is March 21, 2019 and Lanee and I are at Albany, Australia. It is a port city in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, 260 miles Southeast of Perth, the state capital. Albany is the oldest colonial settlement in Western Australia, predating Perth and Fremantle by over two years. Albany has an estimated resident population of 33,145. The Albany settlement was founded on December 26, 1826 as a military outpost of New South Wales. The Victorian Free Classical Revival style Town Hall on York Street is a two-story stone building with a prominent clock tower.

A record high temperature of 112.6 degrees F occurred in February. A record low temperature of 32.2 degrees F occurred in July. July is the wettest month, with a long-term average of 5.67 inches; annual rainfall averages 36.6 inches. Rain in excess of 0.01 inch occurs on two days out of every three during an average winter. The driest month is February with an average of 0.90 inch. The most rainfall to fall in a 24 hour period is 4.48 inches and that occurred November 20, 2008; and it flooded the town.

Lanee and I traveled to town by local shuttle. The day started off with a thunderstorm and rain. By 12:00 noon the skies had cleared and was a very nice day. We enjoyed our time in Albany, Australia.
