Auckland - New Zealand

It is March 6, 2019 and Lanee and I are in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the largest urban area in the country, with a population of around 1,628,900. A diverse and multicultural city, Auckland is home to the largest Polynesian population in the world.

Auckland Airport handles around one million international passengers a month. Auckland is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live.

City of Sails

One of Auckland's nicknames, the "City of Sails", is derived from the popularity of sailing in the region. There are 135,000 yachts and launches registered in Auckland, with about one in three Auckland households owning a boat.

Auckland's surrounding hills are covered in rainforest and the landscape is dotted with dozens of dormant volcanic cones. Auckland is one of the few cities in the world to have a harbor on each of two separate major bodies of water.

University of Auckland

The University of Auckland is the largest university in New Zealand and was established in 1883.

Sky Tower

The Sky Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, it is 1,076 feet tall and has excellent panoramic views.

Parnell Rose Gardens

A formal garden with over 5,000 rose bushes. These are generally in full bloom in November...in March it is toward the end of the season.

Holy Trinity Cathedral

The new church building is located beside the the old church building. The stain glass in the new church is very nice. Wood used in the sanctuary is from native wood.
