Stomata occur among the epidermal cells in some plant organs and consist of a pore surrounded by two guard cells. Stomata, together with associated subsidiary cells, form the stomatal apparatus. A stoma is a controllable opening in the plant's surface to allow the escape of water vapor and the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen with the mesophyll inside. |
