Prairie Bishop can be found in sandy, clayey or limestone soils of the Edwards Plateau. It is commonly seen along roadsides, rocky hillsides, prairies, and pastures. The plant grows eight to twenty-four inches in height and blooms from April to May. The flowers have five white petals that spread flat, with four to fourteen flowers in small stalked clusters. Prairie Bishop is the only plant of this genus to grow in North America.
