| Sideoats Grama can be rhizomatous but can also be a bunchgrass. The leaves appear like oats stemming off from the seedhead. A distinctive characteristic of the leaves is the long, sparse hairs originating from small glands at the edge of the leaf. This species flowers from July to September and grows on calcareous and rocky sites of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. It has good forage value for wildlife and livestock. Sidoats grama has been the state grass of Texas since 1971. | |
