Red Grama is a bunchgrass with bristly seedheads and occasional rhizomes. The plant grows four to sixteen inches tall in shallow, gravelly, dry soils of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. Red Grama flowers when there has been enough rain and favorable temperatures. It has poor forage value for wildlife and livestock.
