Texas Paintbrush is an upright annual that can grow to 16 inches tall. The white to greenish flowers are one inch in length and are surrounded by bright red leaf-like bracts. The leaves are long and stalkless. They alternatingly connect to the stem which is covered with long, soft spreading hairs. Texas paintbrush grows mostly in sandyloam soils of pastures and along roadsides. It blooms from March to June in both the South Texas Plains and Edwards Plateau. |
