Buffelgrass can be found in various soil types of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. It is an erect to spreading grass growing from 12 to 43 inches in height. It is characterized by having branches rising from a "knotty" base and by its purple, bristly seedheads. Buffelgrass is native to Africa and India, but was introduced to South Texas as a forage grass. It is of good economic value for livestock, but poor for wildlife. |
