Purple Leatherflower is a climbing vine that is found on shrubs in thickets, open woodlands, and along streams. The bright green leaves have three to four leaflets, with each having two or three lobes or no lobes at all. The nodding flowers are about 1 inch long and have four dark purple, leathery sepals that curve upwards at the tips. The fruit, an achene, has tails with small velvety hairs. Purple Leatherflower blooms from May to July. |
