| Golden Wave is an upright annual that reaches a height of 1 to 2 feet. It is found in various soils types of the South Texas Plains and Edwards Plateau. The flower head consists of 5 to 7 yellow ray flowers with a reddish-brown spot towards the center and numerous reddish-brown disk flowers. The leaves are 2 to 4 inches long and divided into numerous narrow segments. Golden Wave blooms from February to December. It has been used by weavers for the red dye that can be extracted from the plant for dyeing woolen yarn. The leaves are occasionally eaten by white-tailed deer. |
