Stiffstem Flax is a compact forb reaching heights of eight to twenty inches. It can be found in gravely, sandy, clay-loam, or chalky soils of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. The rigid leaves measure 1 1/4 inches long and the flower is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The flower is yellow with a copper to brick-red center. Stiffstem Flax blooms from February to September.
