Hairy Tubetongue is found in various types of soils of the the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. It is usually two to five inches tall, but it can reach twelve inches in favorable conditions. The leaves are small, measuring 1/2 to 3/4 inch long, and the margins are smooth. The flower is lavender to pink with white inside the throat. Hairy Tubetongue blooms from April to October.
