| Plains Yellow Daisy is an upright perennial with a woody base that reaches 18 inches in height. It can be found in the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains in calcareous, sandy, caliche and rocky soils. The leaves are basal and measure three inches in length. The flower head consists of numerous yellow disk flowers and 12 to 31 bright yellow ray flowers with red-brown veins that are visible on the underside. Plains Yellow Daisy blooms from March to October. The name Plains Bitterweed is due to the bitter taste and bad odor caused by a resinlike substance found on the plant. |
