Dutchman's Breeches is a a perennial, sprawling plant that grows 6-12 inches high. The small flowers are yellow and urn-shaped consisting of four petals and four sepals. The alternate and linear leaves are between 1/4 - 3/8 inches in length. Dutchman's Breeches can be found growing in both the South Texas Plains and the Edwards Plateau regions. It is in bloom from March until May. The leaves are occasionally eaten by white-tailed deer but are poisonous to sheep, cattle, and goats. The symptyoms include increased body temperature, edema of the muzzle, ears, and vulva, and inflamation of the eyes.
