| Ballmoss can be found growing on branches, wires, and rocks of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. It is a dense ball-like clump of leaves that is adapted to drier climates. Ballmoss blooms all year, with flowers on short stalks that rise above the clump of leaves. Although Ballmoss looks parasitic, it is not. It is an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants but does not steal that plants nutrients. Instead it gets its water from the air. Though the name implies it is a moss, it is not. |
