Hophornbeam Copperleaf
Vegetative plants. Key characteristics: leaves are heart-shaped at the base and the margins are finely toothed. Petioles are long.
Flowering plant. Flowers occur as terminal spikes. Mature plants may emit a foul odor.
Seed. Seed have a rough-textured surface and are egg-shaped with one rounded terminal and one pointed terminal. Color ranges from tan to red and the diameter is approximately 1.0 to 2.0 mm.
Life cycle: summer annual.
