Vegetative plants will quickly form dense mats along the soil surface.

Flowering plants.  Key characteristics: leaves are compound and very hairy; the plant is prostrate in its growth habit.

Flowers are small, yellow and contain five petals.

Fruiting structures have several very stiff spines on either side.

Life cycle: summer annual.
