Stem Nematodes Symptoms in Alfalfa

Stem nematodes can cause relatively large spots of very little growth during early spring.  This disease, caused by nearly microscopic worms, normally begins appearing during years two to four of a stand and is seen primarily prior to first cutting of the season.  Symptoms of stem nematodes also include shortened stems, swollen nodes, and crinkled leaves.
