Stem Nematode Symptoms in Alfalfa

Regrowth in spring of alfalfa infested with stem nematodes is delayed resulting in loss of first cutting.  This disease, caused by nearly microscopic worms, normally begins appearing during years two to four of a stand and is seen primarily prior to first cutting of the season.  Many of the infected plants die before regrowth.
