Texas Root Rot (Cotton Root Rot)  

This fungus disease only appears in alfalfa in the extreme southern parts of Oklahoma, usually in fields that have a history of growing cotton.  Plants die quickly during the summer in circles with leaves still attached.  Stems and roots are dark brown to black.
