Forage Quality-Yield Relation

In the vegetative stage forage quality (digestibility, protein, RFV, etc.) is very high, but yield is relatively low.  As maturity advances, quality factors decline and yield increases.  Alfalfa should be harvested at the stage of maturity that meets the needs of animals that will use the hay.
