Shake-bucket Scouting

Average height of alfalfa is estimated by measuring several stems against 'ruler' drawn in one-inch increments on the bucket.  The degree-day total, number of larvae in the bucket, and average plant height are then combined in the recommendation table to determine whether spraying is warranted.
