Lime Application

Lime should be applied to soils where alfalfa will be planted if the pH is below 6.5.  The exact amount of lime can only be determined by a soil test.

Producers should avoid claims that certain materials will change soil pH with lower application rates than agricultural lime.  Comparisons should be made on the ECCE (the neutralizing ability of the lime material).
