German (Italian) Millet As A Companion Crop

Sorghum-Sudangrass and millet are frequently used as companion crops for fall-sown alfalfa.  This is especially important where alfalfa is sown in soil that is prone to blow.  The grasses live long enough to protect the small alfalfa but die as soon as freezing weather begins, leaving a relatively pure stand of alfalfa.
