Thinning Oklahoma Common

Variety

A plot of Oklahoma Common, among 9 other varieties grown and treated under the same conditions, illustrates the pre-mature thinning and short stand life of the old varieties.  The 9 persistent varieties were productive 3 or more years  longer than the common in the center (lower left to upper right).  In this photo, crabgrass occupies areas where alfalfa plants have died. Crabgrass appears as a light color in winter.
