A side-roll irrigation unit applies water, then rolls approximately 35 feet to another set and the water is turned on again for a period of 3 to 8 hours.  Side roll systems require less labor than hand moved pipe but more labor than center-pivot or line move systems.  The cost of side-roll systems is much less than the more automated systems.
