Forage Quality

Stage of maturity at cutting has a major impact on forage quality. If selling high quality hay is your objective, each field should be cut at bud stage. If your hay is more likely to go into the beef cattle market where lower nutritive value is acceptable, allow plants to reach about 50% flowering before cutting.
