OKLAHOMA ALFALFA PRODUCTION CALENDAR

Alfalfa Weevil

  • Larval populations typically exceed the economic threshold during March and it is important that fields be checked at regular intervals according to the "shake bucket" scouting program.
  • Fields that were not grazed during winter may be grazed for 3-4 weeks beginning in March (spring grazing) to destroy eggs in fall growth killed by freezing during winter and larvae in new alfalfa growth. Begin grazing before new growth exceeds 3-4" in height.
