| Fields where alfalfa seed will be produced should be harvested for hay about May 15; then left for seed development. Stands in flower earlier than mid June will not initiate seed formation because of low bee activity. Stands that are cut in June for hay cannot produce seed before September, attracting high infestations of alfalfa seed chalcid. Alfalfa seed producers should locate bee keepers and arrange to have at least one hive of bees per acre. | |
