Hay Storage

"Shrinkage" is a general term used for losses while hay is in storage. Typical dry matter losses from handling and biological activity is usually less than 3%. Water loss can account for over half of the shrinkage for hay stored more than four months. The moisture content of hay removed from a barn in January can be as low as 10%.
