Blue Mustard

COMMON NAME: Blue mustard
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Chorispora tenella (Pallas) DC.
TYPE: Annual Cool-season Broadleaf Weed
DESCRIPTION                                                                 
    Germination: September to October.
    Reproduction: By seeds in May to June.
    Stems: 1 to 3 feet high with many axillary stems at top of plant.
    Leaves: Leaves feather shaped but not as deeply lobed as shepherdspurse.
Flowers/
Inflorescence:
Flowers formed apically in elongated racemes with four bluish-purple petals.
Fruit: Linear silique with conspicuous beak, about 1/3 the length of pod, breaking apart at maturity transversely into numerous 2-seeded sections.

FOUND:

In fall-planted alfalfa near Burlington (NW).

CONTROL:

No information on control.  Would suggest trying to quarts of BUTYRAC 200 in fall for controlling in fall-planted alfalfa.
