COMMON NAME: Dayflower
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Commelina communis L.
TYPE: Summer Annual Monocot
DESCRIPTION                                                                 

    Germination:

May-June.

    Reproduction:

Flowering September to October.

    Stems:

No hair, many branches, some rooting, forms large mats late in the season.

    Leaves:

Ovate, conspicuous basal sheaths.

Flowers/
Inflorescence:

3-petals, 2 erect blue and 1 whitish.

    Fruit:

Capsules 2-3 locular, seed brown or reddish, 1/16 inch long.

FOUND:

Central and eastern Oklahoma in most areas. Only occasionally found in alfalfa near woods.

CONTROL:

Not that competitive. No selective herbicide option.
