Slender Rush

COMMON NAME: Slender Rush
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Juncus tenuis Willd.
TYPE: Simple Winter Perennial, Monocot
DESCRIPTION                                                                 
    Germination: From September to November.
    Reproduction: By seed in early summer.
    Stems: Round, slender, hollow, not jointed, dark green.
    Leaves: Very narrow, glass-like, mostly at base of plant.
Flowers/
Inflorescence:
Flowers small, greenish brown, with 6 scale-like bracts.
    Fruit: Small, brown seed, about 1/8 inch long with cross wrinkles.

FOUND:

Throughout the state in low wet areas, very seldom a problem in alfalfa.

CONTROL:

No herbicide available for control.
