Yellow Nutsedge

COMMON NAME: Yellow Nutsedge
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Cyperus esculentus L.
TYPE: Perennial Warm-season Grass-like Plant
DESCRIPTION  
    Germination: May to July.
    Reproduction: By seeds and by tubers produced at the tips of scaly rhizomes.
    Stems: Erect, triangular, yellow-green.
    Leaves: 3-ranked, narrow, grass-like, basal.

FOUND:

Yellow nutsedge can be found in cultivated fields and pastures. It is usually not a serious weed in established alfalfa because of frequent cutting and regrowth of alfalfa.  However, it can be a problem with spring planting.

CONTROL:

Some control of yellow nutsedge is possible in spring planted alfalfa with EPTAM.
