DESCRIPTION | |
Germination: | March to May. |
Reproduction: | By seeds in June to August. |
Stems: | Plants with smooth grooved stems with many axillary stems at top of plant. |
Leaves: | Alternate, 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5 centimeters) long, smooth, usually white mealy-coated, especially on underside and in early stages, and with edges more or less toothed. Leaves of common lambsquarters are rounded to triangular while leaves of Slimleaf are linear-lanceolate. |
Flowers/ Inflorescence: |
Seeds formed in upper leaf axils and on terminals of both species. |
Fruit: | Utricle with star shaped calyx covering the seed. |
FOUND: |
Common and slimleaf Lambsquarters are common and both can be a problem with spring planted alfalfa. |
CONTROL: |
Good control of lambsquarters is possible with application of BUTYRAC 200 applied to plants in the seedling stage. Some control of small plants may be obtained with the use of PURSUIT. |
