Annual Bluegrass

COMMON NAME: Annual Bluegrass
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Poa annua L.
TYPE: Winter Annual Cool-season Weedy Grass
DESCRIPTION                                                              
    Germination: From late summer through fall.
    Reproduction: Seeds maturing in May-June.
    Stems: Mostly erect, some bending and rooting at lower nodes.
Leaves: Narrow, no hairs, boat shaped tip.

Inflorescence:
Spikelets in pyramidal panicle, lemma hairy on nerves.
    Fruit: Seed falling intact with lemma and palea, no awn.

FOUND:

Statewide, primarily in thinning stands, along brushy areas.

CONTROL:

Not competitive, so usually don’t worry about control. Plants will be controlled in established stands with January-February applications of SINBAR or VELPAR.
