The Trip When We Slept on the Train

When the ship arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark on May 10, 2018 we went to the train station and travelled to Hamburg, Germany. That night we headed by train to Basel, Switzerland. We had a private car that had sleeping quarters. The entire room was eight feet by seven feet.
The bench seat with arm rests turned into the bottom bunk for sleeping and the Murphy bed above became the other bunk. The table shown in the picture to the left is removable and used to serve meals on. The picture to the right shows the beds lowered for us to sleep on.
A ladder to get to the top bunk was bolted to the wall next to the rest room door. The rest room was unique from the stand point you had to decide what arrangement to orient the room before going in. For a shower you moved the sink to the right over the toilet so you could get into the shower. You had 90 seconds of shower water on the timer so get ready...go! The next morning we had a full breakfast served in our room.
The country side was beatiful. Canola was in full bloom next to the fields of small grain. The vineyards were on the sides of the hill. The train track just before we arrived in Basel, had Germany to the east and France to the west.
We spent the day in Basel doing Hop-on-Hop-off. Our luggage was checked in at the train station. In the process of retrieving our bags, we forgot to pick up the umbrellas we had been using for walking sticks. We then went by train to Milan, Italy. The further south we went in Switzerland, the higher the mountains. Had plenty of security on the train between Switzerland and Italy. Very memorable.
