- February Seedling Stand Weed Control:
Do not use Glean®, Amber®, or Finesse® to control
weeds on the wheat crop preceding the planting of alfalfa. Residues of these herbicides
can seriously damage seedling alfalfa.
- February Established Stand Weed
Control: Weed Control: Most cool-season weeds (broadleaf and weedy
grasses) in established stands (less 30 stems/square foot) can be profitability controlled
with January or February application of Sinbar® or Velpar®. It is
important to apply these types of herbicide before the alfalfa begins active growth to
avoid herbicide damage to the alfalfa.
- Summer weeds in old established stands can not be
controlled with January applications of Sinbar® and Velpar®. By
June the herbicide is gone. However, good control of summer weeds is possible with Treflan
TM E.C. applied and incorporated in January or February.
