OKLAHOMA ALFALFA PRODUCTION CALENDAR

Weed Control

Cool-season weeds (broadleaf and weedy grasses) in established stands (less 30 stems/square foot) can be profitability controlled with a January or a February application of Sinbar® or Velpar®. It is important to apply these types of herbicide before the alfalfa begins active growth to avoid herbicide damage to the alfalfa.

Summer weeds in old established stands can not be controlled with January applications of Sinbar® and Velpar®. By June the herbicide is gone. However, good control of summer weeds is possible with Treflan TM E.C. applied and incorporated in January or February.
